Life Is No Coincidence

Life Is No Coincidence

Autore: Sheryl Glick

Numero di pagine: 204

I am very ill. I sense my deceased grandfather's presence. He is trying to tell me something. Am I about to die? Has he come for me? I shout into the dark, "I cannot hear you!" He tells me I must write something for my father. Thirty-six hours later, I learn my father just passed away. I am to write his eulogy. That visitation opened wide swaths of understanding for author, Sheryl Glick. She ultimately learned we all have the ability to communicate with our guides spirits of loved ones, guardian angels, saints, or just "coincidences" that show us the way. Life Is No Coincidence relates that journey-you will find it similar to your own. "Sheryl Glick's book will inspire you to go beyond coincidences of your daily life and see the bigger picture of why we all are here." -Dr. Carmen Harra "A generous and healing Spirit herself, Sheryl now shares her journey with all who read this book." -Rev. Robert Brown "Sheryl Glick opens her heart and soul to an extraordinary dimension and enlightens us how every encounter guides us from the start of this life to passing to the next." -Dr. Bea Carson

Causes and Coincidences

Causes and Coincidences

Autore: David Owens

Numero di pagine: 202

In an important departure from theories of causation, David Owens proposes that coincidences have no causes, and that a cause is something which ensures that its effects are no coincidence. In Causes and Coincidences, he elucidates the idea of a coincidence as an event which can be analysed into constituent events, the nomological antecedents of which are independent of each other. He also suggests that causal facts can be analysed in terms of non-causal facts, including relations of necessity. Thus, causation is defined in terms of coincidence, and coincidence without reference to causation. David Owens challenges the ideas associated with Hume, Davidson and Lewis, constructing a theory which distinguishes nomological necessity and sufficiency from their logical counterparts. He is able to offer novel solutions to the major problems of causation, including the direction of causation, the logical form of causal statements, the distinction betwen causal connections and logical connections, and the relationship between psychological and physical causation.

Because Without Cause

Because Without Cause

Autore: Marc Lange

Numero di pagine: 513

Not all scientific explanations work by describing causal connections between events or the world's overall causal structure. Some mathematical proofs explain why the theorems being proved hold. In this book, Marc Lange proposes philosophical accounts of many kinds of non-causal explanations in science and mathematics. These topics have been unjustly neglected in the philosophy of science and mathematics. One important kind of non-causal scientific explanation is termed explanation by constraint. These explanations work by providing information about what makes certain facts especially inevitable - more necessary than the ordinary laws of nature connecting causes to their effects. Facts explained in this way transcend the hurly-burly of cause and effect. Many physicists have regarded the laws of kinematics, the great conservation laws, the coordinate transformations, and the parallelogram of forces as having explanations by constraint. This book presents an original account of explanations by constraint, concentrating on a variety of examples from classical physics and special relativity. This book also offers original accounts of several other varieties of non-causal scientific...
