Obesity is a multifactorial metabolic disease that is characterized by unbalanced caloric ingestion and energy expenditure majorly associated with increased access to high-caloric and processed food and a modern and sedentary lifestyle. Long-term obesity has been associated with several other co-morbidities such as type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D), dyslipidemia, cardiovascular diseases, and certain types of cancer.
