Un breve saggio che parte dalla fiaba, dalla sua struttura e dalla sua interpretazione per poi approfondire le opere della scrittrice britannica Angela Carter che ha scelto di riscrivere le fiabe classiche e tradizionali in un'ottica moderna e femminista.

In queste pièces Shakespeare realizza la sublime interazione di pratiche e linguaggi teatrali eterogenei: il decoro dei classici si unisce alla vivacità e alla sregolatezza della festa popolare, la tradizione orale vivacizza quella scritta, lo spirito comico si accompagna al tragico, la riflessione del saggio alla libertà del sognatore, l’illusorietà della favola al ritmo magistrale della rappresentazione. Papers presented at the Eleventh International Conference on Patristic Studies held in Oxford 1991 (see also Studia Patristica 24, 25, 26 and 28). The successive sets of Studia Patristica contain papers delivered at the International Conferences on Patristic Studies, which meet for a week once every four years in Oxford; they are held under the aegis of the Theology Faculty of the University. Members of these conferences come from all over the world and most offer papers. These range over the whole field, both East and West, from the second century to a section on the Nachleben of the Fathers. The majority are short papers dealing with some small and manageable point; they raise and sometimes resolve questions about the authenticity of documents, dates of events, and such like, and some unveil new texts. The smaller number of longer papers put such matters into context and indicate wider trends. The whole reflects the state of Patristic scholarship and demonstrates the vigour and popularity of the subject.

Volume VIII opens with Byron in Ravenna, in 1821. His passion for the Countess Guiccioli is subsiding into playful fondness, and he confesses to his sister Augusta that he is not "so furiously in love as at first." Italy, meanwhile, is afire with the revolutionary activities of the Carbornari, which Byron sees as "the very poetry of politics."
Italian poet, novelist, literary critic and translator Cesare Pavese (1908-1950) is generally recognized as one of the most important writers of his period. Between the years 1929 and 1933, Pavese enjoyed a rich correspondence with his Italian American friend, the musician and educator Antonio Chiuminatto (1904-1973). The nature of this correspondence is primarily related to Pavese's thirst to learn about American culture, its latest books, its most significant contemporary writers, as well as its slang. This volume presents an annotated edition of Pavese and Chiminatto's complete epistolary exchange. Mark Pietralunga's brilliant introduction provides historical and cultural context for the letters and traces Pavese's early development as a leading Americanist and translator. The volume also includes an appendix of Chiuminatto's detailed annotations and thorough explanations of colloquial American terms and slang, drawn from the works of Sinclair Lewis, Sherwood Anderson, and William Faulkner. A lively and illuminating exchange, this collection ultimately corroborates critical opinion that America was the igniting spark of Pavese's literary beginnings as a writer and translator.
These twenty-four papers originated at a conference held in 1999 which was dedicated to Xenophon's writings and to the many areas of Greek life for which he is a major source. The contributions, which also reflect the problems of recreating a life that we have so few facts for, are divided into seven sections which discuss: Xenophon's life; Xenophon and Socrates; Xenophon and the barbarian world; Sparta; religion and politics; Anabasis ; Hellenica . These wide-ranging papers are specialised, often based on a close reading on Xenophon's texts, and not all of the Greek is translated. Eighteen papers, plus the introduction, are in English; the remaining papers are in Italian or German.
