L’enigma di Eurosky / The enigma of Eurosky

Autore: Claudio Strinati , Pietro Barucci , Paolo Berdini

N. 4 volume of ENIGMATIC ARCHITECTURE series directed by Ruggero Lenci The Eurosky Tower, designed by Franco Purini and Laura Thermes in the centrality EUR-Castellaccio in Rome started from the union of two symmetrical towers, in many respects autonomous: a dolmen that on the roof performs liberating and propitiatory exploits. The ontogeny of Eurosky, recapitulates phylogeny of a series of projects delivered to the history of contemporary architecture. In the first place the constructivist Horizontal Skyscrapers for the center of Moscow, designed in 1924 by El Lissitzky, also called “Irons for the clouds”. But in it is also possible to...

Diplomacy and the Aristocracy as Patrons of Music and Theatre in the Europe of the Ancien Régime

Autore: Iskrena Yordanova , Francesco Cotticelli

Numero di pagine: 546

This volume explores the dense networks created by diplomatic relationships between European courts and aristocratic households in the early modern age, with the emphasis on celebratory events and the circulation of theatrical plots and practitioners promoted by political and diplomatic connections. The offices of plenipotentiary ministers were often outposts providing useful information about cultural life in foreign countries. Sometimes the artistic strategies defined through the exchanges of couriers were destined to leave a legacy in the history of arts, especially of music and theatre. Ministers favored or promoted careers, described or made pieces of repertoire available to new audiences, and even supported practitioners in their difficult travels by planning profitable tours. They stood behind extraordinary artists and protected many stage performers with their authority, while carefully observing and transmitting precious information about the cultural and musical life of the countries where they resided.

When the ocean dissolves into the drop

Autore: Avikal Costantino

Numero di pagine: 160

There is a point beyond which physics cannot venture: the event horizon, a region of space-time where phenomena cannot be registered. The event horizon is a bodiless border on the edge of a black hole; anything that the black hole’s gravitational field attracts beyond this border will be unable to come back. All possibility of exploration stops here: no unfortunate astronaut who free-fell into the black hole could ever return. We do not know what lies in the black hole, beyond the event horizon. Science has never reached the other side. But spiritual seekers who make a leap beyond—yes, they know. And that is the subject of this book: the possibility of exploring beyond an imaginary confine, a journey of awareness in which one can enter, register phenomena, evaluate their implications, and reemerge with one’s results. There is still a point of no return, but it is of a different kind: it is a threshold beyond which you can never be as you were, and from which you can never turn back. You cannot put your awakened self to death. Sri Ramana Maharshi explains this well: if the bucket (the ego) dips into the well (the self), but the cord is not severed, the ego can return, even...

The Socratic Problem

Autore: Mario Montuori

Numero di pagine: 475

This work is intended to offer to anyone still intending to devote himself to the Socratic problem a reliable means of approach by providing, first of all, a complete history of the problem itself, from its first appearance during Socrates' lifetime up to the present day. The book provides not only the history of the problem, but also the essential documents, accompanied by brief explana-tory and bibliographical contextual notes, to be read in counterpoint with the chapters of its history. These documents consist of 61 extracts from 54 authors, from Fréret onwards, in other words, from the beginning of the history of the problem of the socratic sources, which arose in the Age of Enlightenment, down to the present day. These extracts are not intended to form a collection of the various representations, interpretations or images of Socrates which succeeded each other in the history of socratic historiography; instead, the aim is to present, in a logically and chronologically consistent order, the various ways in which the problem of the sources of Socratism was presented and resolved in the course of two hundred years of study and research on the 'case' of Socrates.
