Le itako sono il punto di partenza per un viaggio nell’aldilà nipponico, volto a scoprire come nel Giappone contemporaneo il tradizionale rapporto con il lutto e i riti funebri si sia in parte trasformato e in parte rafforzato negli ultimi settant’anni. Si tratta di un viaggio a cavallo fra diverse tradizioni religiose, accomunate da una comunicazione costante con i propri defunti, ben lontana dall’esperienza a cui siamo abituati in Occidente. Un percorso che, al suo termine, ci permetterà di rivalutare anche il nostro rapporto con la morte e il modo in cui la società occidentale ne ha dimenticato l’importanza.
